Heidy had her first yoga class in 2003 as a way to keep her body in good condition when SARS hit Hong Kong. She used to model and would go to the gym to stay fit. But after trying her first yoga class, she discovered that it not only made her feel young and healthy but it also brought her a true sense of inner peace and happiness. So she began exploring the world of yoga by attending different classes and workshops in Acroyoga, Hot Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Power Yoga, Iyengar, Ashtanga Yoga and Yin Yoga. The more she exposed herself, the greater her curiosity and hunger for yoga.
In 2006, Heidy experienced a yearning to "seek the truth", which prompted her to take her first 200-hour teacher training course at Sivananda Ashram in Montreal, Canada. She felt blessed there and was given the spiritual name of Shivani. When she returned from Canada in October 2006, she started teaching to fulful her desire to share all her experiences with everyone. Since then, her passion for Ashtanga has become stronger and stronger - she is attracted by the strength, discipline and beauty of vinyasa.
In 2008, Heidy met her inspiring teachers Paul Dallaghan and Neil Barker in Koh Samui. There, she completed a 200-hour teacher training course under their care and love. She returned to Samui the following year to complete a Pre-natal Yoga course and finds herself wanting to go back to complete the 500-hour advance training. This is Heidy's goal in the next year, as is visiting India to continue her studies and to seek more truth.
Heidy practises Mysore Yoga daily and believes that everything will come with persistent practice. |
