Schedule and Tuition
Afternoon Series
2:00pm - 5:00pm
Session I: 13 August (Mon)
Spanda: The Pulsation of Life (Spanda Karikas)

What is the secret of the tremendous display of energy behind all natural phenomena? What is the dynamism of life? What is that power which enlivens our senses and our mind? What is the vitality behind our consciousness? How can we be in contact with the source of energy and happiness?

These are some of the questions explored in this fascinating seminar. Drawing from one of the fundamental texts of Tantric Shaivism in Kashmir, this course explores the very foundation of life and the universe, unveiling powerful insights and a variety of transformative practices that have the potential to radically transform and enrich our lives.

Session II: 14 August (Tue)
Yoga Sutras: Patanjali Revealed

What is the innermost secret of yoga? How can the mind find true peace? In what way do the practices of yoga connect to the rest of my life? Why are Patanjali's Yoga Sutras such an important text in the yoga tradition? And why have the Yoga Sutras been so misunderstood?

These are some of the questions that we will be exploring in this seminar. This weekend-long immersion into this fascinating text will not only give us an opportunity to recover the "original" teachings of Patanjali, but — more importantly - it will give us an immediately applicable understanding of the practices and principles that can take our yoga practice to a whole other dimension of depth. In it, we will be exploring the main teachings of this foundational text, contemplating their implications and practising some of the major approaches that Patanjali offered, which have survived the rigorous test of time.

Session III: 15 August (Wed)
Vivekacudamani: The Jewel of Supreme Wisdom

What is the fastest means to the experience of the highest?

In this workshop, we will explore the practical approaches and answers to that question provided by the Vivekacudamani, one of the most important works of Vedanta. In this brief and incisive yoga scripture, we find a complete roadmap:

An unshakeable vision of oneness between the Absolute and us, as well as a clear vision of the practice to experience that union. In the words of Shankara, its author, this text brings "within easy reach the soothing ocean of nectar that is the Absolute."

In this exploration of the sublime system of Vedanta, we will cover topics such as the qualities that lead to success for a yoga student, the nature of human life, the subtleties of perception, and the practice of deep meditation, among others.

Session IV: 16 August (Thu)
Pratyabhijna: From the Everyday to the Supreme

Based on a classical tantric text from the Kashmiri tradition (the Pratyabhijna-hrdayam, or "Heart of Recognition"), this seminar will teach us how to recognise the most extraordinary supreme consciousness in the midst of the most ordinary processes. Starting with an expansive understanding of the unfolding of consciousness in the universe and offering the key to the understanding and experience of supreme reality, the seminar will culminate with several powerful techniques for the expansion of consciousness. Ultimately, this tradition teaches that the unfolding of the inner energy brings about the attainment of supreme bliss right within your own heart.

This seminar combines the most sublime philosophy and wisdom.

Evening Series
7:00pm - 10:00pm
Shiva Sutras: The Supreme Awakening or The Yoga of Supreme Identity

Interested in taking your yoga practice to a deeper level? Want to learn more about the Tantric meditative practices?

Then this workshop is for you.

The purpose of this workshop is to explore a set of very profound practices that probe beyond the surface of reality to uncover the awareness of the divine in every aspect of life. Drawing from The Shiva Sutras, a foundational text of the Tantric Shaivism of Kashmir, we will uncover a deeper way of looking at life, one that uncovers profound joy and a sense of wonder.

The workshop consists of 3 sessions. Each one is independent but also builds on the previous one.

Recommended Reading Material:
· Dyczkowski, Mark. The Aphorisms of Siva: The Siva Sutra. ISBN: 0791412644
· Lakshmanjoo, Swami. Shiva Sutras: The Supreme Awakening. ISBN: 0759654573
· Singh, Jaideva. The Shiva Sutras. ISBN: 8120804074

Session I: 13 August (Mon)
The Secrets of the Body and the World

This first session will explore the background and context of the tradition, and will begin to investigate the foundational practices of Tantric Shaivism.

Session II: 14 August (Tue)
The Power of Mantra and Words

Once the foundations are mastered, one of the most powerful — and multifaceted - dimensions of practice has to do with mantra and with the ways language shapes our experience. This session will explore how to harness the power of sound in the practice of yoga and in every area of life.

Session III: 15 August (Wed)
The Radiance of the Divine Shines All Around Us

In this final session of the workshop, we will explore the deeper dimensions of Tantric meditation, based on two revolutionary approaches the Shiva Sutras offer. These practices seek to find the divine in every situation and to integrate the highest experience of meditation with the rest of our lives.

Session IV: 16 August (Thu)
Shiva and Shakti

The male and female archetypes - these powerful images of yoga mythology offer insights, inspiration and guidance for the central goal of yoga: the expansion of our awareness.

In a lively and engaging format, this workshop seeks to ground these powerful archetypes through the use of traditional story-telling, asana practice, visualisations and meditations.

Weekend Workshop
The Wonder of Meditation
18 August (Sat): 10:00am - 1:00pm & 2:30pm - 5:30pm
19 August (Sun): 10:00am - 1:00pm

Did you know that meditation has always been the core of yoga practice? Throughout history, all the various systems of yoga developed in India considered meditation their most central practice. In the modern world, as more and more scientific research confirms the multiple and profound benefits of meditation, this wonderful practice is increasingly becoming more mainstream.

The reason is simple: whether one seeks relaxation and stress reduction, increasing self-awareness, the wonders of self-discovery or spiritual fulfillment, meditation is a proven and simple way to achieve those.

In this multi-session workshop—taught by a former monk with over 30 years of experience—we will not only explore the various building blocks and the many facets of meditation, but we will also have ample opportunity to explore various approaches through guided group sessions, discussions and questions and answers. Whatever your level of expertise, this workshop is designed to take your practice to the next level.

About Carlos Pomeda
Originally from Madrid, Spain, Carlos has been steeped in all aspects of the yoga tradition during his 36 years of practice and study. He spent 18 of those years as a monk of the Saraswati order - under the name Swami Gitananda - including 9 years at the Siddha Yoga ashram in India, studying and practising under Swami Muktananda and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda.

During this time he learned the various systems of Indian Philosophy and immersed himself in the practice of yoga, becoming one of the senior monks of the tradition and teaching meditation and philosophy to tens of thousands of students around the world. He combines this experience and traditional training with his academic background, which includes two master's degrees: one in Sanskrit, from U.C. Berkeley (where he has taught) and another one in Religious Studies, from U.C. Santa Barbara. He is currently working on his Ph.D. dissertation on the Krama school of Kashmiri Tantrism.

Carlos lives in Austin, Texas, and travels extensively around the world conducting a variety of retreats, courses, seminars, workshops and lectures on the Wisdom of Yoga and related subjects.

As a teacher, Carlos is renowned for the breadth of his knowledge and the clarity with which he conveys it. His great love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humour and his deep connection with his audiences give him the ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable.
