In 2003, Chris started to read and study yoga poses from yoga journals and books, and taught himself how to do the postures at an elementary level. Upon graduating from a mechanical engineering programme at the University of Windsor in Canada, his enthusiasm for the practice of yoga grew. After leaving Windsor, he lived in Toronto for a month and studied bikram yoga at the local bikram yoga studios.
Upon arriving in Hong Kong in 2004, Chris continued to practise and study different styles of hatha yoga at various studios in conjunction with sivananda yoga, iyengar yoga and power yoga. As his devotion to practice grew, he finally decided to pursue several yoga teacher training certification programmes at the Australian Fitness Trainings Professional Institute and Hong Kong Yoga Association.
By 2006, Chris developed his focal interest in ashtanga yoga vinyasa and participated in a 200-hr teacher training under Yoga Alliance accreditation in Koh Samui, Thailand. As his devotion continued to mature, he also took a 100-hr advanced anatomy course related to ashtanga yoga vinyasas. In addition to personal growth, Chris found the practice to help the rehabilitation of his ACL knee injuries from 10 years ago.
In 2009, Chris began to explore the study of mat and reformer Pilates by participating in teacher training courses at VIM Pilates studio in Hong Kong. He found that the beauty of Pilates practice is that it also enhances yoga practice, while restoring both mind and body to a more biomechanical balanced state.
Chris will visit Mysore, India next year and continue to further his practice of ashtanga yoga vinyasa…
