Copper

Copper
Copper Crow has committed himself to the study of yoga since being introduced to the practice through martial arts at a very young age. After meeting Andrey Lappa in 2006, he has dedicated himself to the deeper study and practice of Universal Yoga.

Having taught since 2003, Copper joined Pure Yoga in 2006 and has been Managing Teacher in Singapore since 2008. His playfulness and joy are present in every class and training that he leads. Whether in a hot room or on the double mats of Universal, students are encouraged to explore themselves as deeply as possible.

Copper is grateful to all his teachers who have shared their knowledge and wisdom, and who continue to inspire him to practise his yoga on and off the mat.

"Whether it's physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual - yoga has something for everyone, at every stage of life's journey. Every passing moment is an opportunity to start anew and transform your life. Let go of expectations, have fun, and enjoy the exploration!"

Copper's Books

Autobiography of a yogi
Paramahansa Yogananda
Beautiful & inspiring. You read it and you can't help but fall in love - with the man, with the history, with yoga.

Anatomy of hatha yoga
H. David Coulter
A great reference guide connecting yoga with anatomy & physiology.

Asana pranayama mudra bandha
Swami Satyananda Saraswati
Fantastic. This book has it all. If someone asked me for one book on yoga, i'd give them this one.

Way of the peaceful warrior
Dan Millman
This is a great story of overcoming diversity and what it means to be a student.

The alchemist
Paulo Coelho
Fun, romantic, easy read with heart and soul.

Copper's Tips

Breathe - especially for us guys. We've been raised to lift weights and strain to do it all the way for the sake of our ego - learn to breathe. Remember, if you stop breathing you've probably gone a little too far, so back off a bit till you can breathe calmly. Let your breath determine your depth in a pose and not the other way around.

Go step by step - and do it the right way, find joy in the process of each pose rather than just jumping to the final outcome. Slow it down and fine-tune the mind-body connection with each motion. This will also ensure that you do it safely, reducing the risk of injury.

Listen to your body - When you feel the stretch, that's far enough for one day. Remember, you have the rest of your life to move all the way through the pose. It's not a race, but if it were it'd be a marathon, not a sprint. Have fun in your practice and don't be scared to fall. Be like a kid, you fall - you laugh - you try again. It's a yoga practice - not a yoga perfect. Try smiling!
