Happy New Year
Tennessee Williams once said: "Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans", and it's quite ironic that no matter what our greatest dreams and goals may be, unless we can align ourselves to what is actually going on Here and Now, our experiences of reality is certainly going to be a little distorted.
Our experiences of life are always subjective and personal, but there is great energy and strength to be gained from waking up to what is actually happening rather than what we want to be happening. In our society there is a present trend that you need to chase your ambitions. If you don't have any goals, no plans, no expectations, and no dreams - you don't have a life. You're nobody! Tell me your goals and I'll tell you who you are...
What if we had no other plans than to be present? To be fully present with all of our dreams, hopes, expectations as well as fears, and be equally poised in whatever direction life may go. Success or failure, appraisal or blame, acquisition or loss - could we still keep our peace? The lessons of life may be many for us all and we all have our paths to tread, but what a different perspective opens up when we embrace a greater mindfulness! Observe our many patterns, and examine the fluctuations of the mind with a little detachment rather than being spell-bound by them. Clarity and great focus certainly reveals itself a lot easier in a balanced mind, centered from within, rather than in a mind driven by ambition and expectations.
Having no concrete plans does not mean being bereft of responsibilities. Without responsibilities our mind remains complacent, like a great talent buried in the ground. Utilizing it, no matter what state or quality, is what gives us the insight and opportunity to embrace life in a more wholesome manner.
As the New Years strides forward we would like to wish you a Mighty New Year from all of the Yoga Teachers here at The Oriental Spa. We wish you peace in your daily interactions with life. Greater flexibility on and off your yoga mats. But most of all we wish you great clarity and presence to just be your self, find your path in the midst of all the challenges and struggles and remember when we find evenness of mind, a greater equanimity from within, our general outlook on life takes on a whole new different perspective. You will feel whole and complete, centered and steady, rather than fragmented, scattered, confused and distracted.
So here's to a great New Year of Peace, rather than pieces, unity rather than separation and infinite trust in the unfolding of your own clarity as you peel away the layers that obstruct it.
Happy New Seeing!
