Phoenix: Thingy Matters

If this blog is about my life in Taipei as a yogini, would you be my fan? What about my dark side?Afterall I have disappeared from Pure Taipei for 2 years. Am I given a second chance here? If so, to do what? This blog is about thingy (a slang for things) that matters. Feel free to TALK BACK, I'm listening.

31.12.12 Taipei New Year, New Beginnings.
1 January has always been special to me. Maybe it's because in Singapore the new school year begins on 2 January :)

January is the opening month of the year. January comes from the word, Janus - a Roman God for beginnings, transitions and time itself. A time for reflection upon the past and preparation for the future.

What New Year resolutions have you made?

Here's wishing you a bright 2013 filled with your inner light and light all aound.

May all our wishes come true. May we live our lives with peace and love.

Namaste,
An Qi

07.10.12 Taipei Me, Vegetarian?
"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." Albert Einstein

Every time someone asked if I am a vegetarian, I replied yes. Then, I added that I am not "fussy", that means if there's meat in the dish, I'll just pick the veg. Does that mean I'm not a vegetarian?

The more I want to be a "pure" vegetarian, the more temptations come my way. A few years ago, I told my colleagues I wanted to be a vegan. Next thing I knew, eggs were calling me :)

I guess I'll stick to being a Humanitarian.

15.07.12 Taipei Universal Requirement of the Human Body
"We are taught how to move and behave in the external world, but we are never taught how to be still and examine what is within ourselves.

At the same time, learning to be still and calm should not be made a ceremony or a part of any religion: it is a universal requirement of the human body.

When one learns to sit still, he or she attains a kind of joy that is inexplicable. The highest of all joys that can be attained or experienced by a human being can be attained through meditation.

All other joys in the world are transient and momentary, but the joy of meditation is immense and everlasting."

- Swami Rama, in Meditation and its Practice.

29.03.12 Taipei Truth or Excuse
"Ssshhh ... I have something to say..."

"You want to hear?"

"But, can you handle the truth?"

"Guess not, because to you it's an excuse."

Is honesty still the best policy ???

24.12.11 Taipei Silent Night, Holy Night
Since my arrival to Taipei last November, this is the first Saturday, 24 December that I don't have to teach. I did have a Private Yoga session in the morning but that's not counted. I mean No Group/Public Class.

A fellow teacher invited me to her house but I decided to stay home alone :)

After all, it's Silent Night, Holy Night.

For me, it's a time to plant the seed that will sprout in 2012. I am laying the foundation for a different winter :)

I am using this time to reflect, refocus and determine what will be "born" in 2012.

SSSssshhhh ...

04.10.11 Taipei A lesson that changed my practice
Give yourself permission to be different from everyone else, afterall yoga is an individual practice. Take care of yourself. What other people are doing at times become irrelevant. Your practice time is too precious to spend looking over your shoulder at that amazing pose on the other side of the room.

Take Private Yoga :)

03.08.11 Taipei Greener pasture
I was running on the spot looking at the green pasture at a distance. Suddenly, I slipped and fell on my buttocks.

Was this a reminder that there is no greener pasture ??? Where I was standing is already green.

Stay present. This moment is a gift.
