Prasana Practices: Creative Approaches to Vinyasa Yoga with Eric Shaw
26-28 October, Ngee Ann City

About the Workshop
---
"Prasana" has two meanings: The "fulfilment" (pra) of asana, and "to throw" (prasana). Asana's potential is fulfilled through creative exploration of poses and the "throws'" that link them. Prasana Yoga workshops provide principles for creating new asanas, transitions, and sequences in flow yoga.
Schedule & Description
---
This weekend immersion has three parts:
1) Yoga's philosophy and history
2) Learning movement principles, like how to imitate a snake or a wave. We will find stambha — energetic grounding, and create ekagrata -moving one-pointedness — among other principles. We will study vinyasa's broad science and poetry to give us the foundation for comprehending how yoga works.
3) Applying these methods and philosophical frameworks to create new vinyasas and asanas. Yoga provides techniques to stimulate, contain and express energy in the body. Certain principles make this happen. We will apply these principles in creative work on the following schedule:
Session I: The History of Yoga - A Lecture with Archival Photography

About Eric Shaw
---
Eric Shaw is a scholar, yogi, and creator of Prasana Yoga. He shares his unique and innovative style of asana and lecturing on the history, philosophy and science of yoga with dynamic multimedia presentations worldwide.
A lifelong athlete, Eric has always loved pushing his body to its physical limits, and has excelled in a variety of sports, competing in swimming and triathlons. Raised in a physically active, religious, and academically-oriented household, throughout his life Eric cultivated a love for art, academics, and contemplative study of philosophy, as well as sports. He found his calling in yoga, combining physically disciplined practice with meditation, creativity, and the academically rigorous study of yoga philosophy and history.
Eric created Prasana Yoga by bringing 25 years of movement, meditation and teaching practices together with novel styles of vinyasa and still yoga, and infusing his students' physical practice with meaningful, traditional yogic philosophy. Eric offers students knowledge of the ancient yoga tradition attuned to the modern experience in upbeat, energetic classes informed by excellent knowledge of posture, meditation and breathwork. In 2004 and 2010 he studied and taught in India. With certifications from Kripalu Yoga and Yogaworks, he is an E-500 Registered Yoga Teacher.

That text, under changing titles, is still in progress. He has since moved closer to the Anusara community, its styles of teaching, and its life-affirming practice of Tantra in the world. this dialog continues, despite the recent upheavals in that community.
