Introduction to Hatha Yoga Pradipika with Jamie Plante & Karina 1-4 May, 6:30pm – 9:30pm Pure Tower
The most famous book ever written on yoga is The Yoga Sutra by Master Patanjali, but it deals mainly with the philosophy of yoga. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, on the other hand, is the ultimate text of practical advice for the practitioner's journey through the entire practice of yoga.
The source for all the systems of yoga followed in the world today is Hatha Yoga Pradikipa - "Light on the Yoga of the Sun and Moon" by the great Indian Yoga Master Swatmarama who composed this wonderful explanation of the entire physical and spiritual path of yoga over 500 years ago.
This course will be an introduction to Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the extraordinary text that provides a practical guide for personal growth, success in every aspect of your life, and attainment of deep and lasting happiness. This is a workshop-style course comprised of half lecture and half asana-mudra practice. Explore Yoga's evolutionary practices from birth, through your first sun salutation and all the way to reaching the ultimate goal of yoga.
Participants who attend the entire course will receive a certificate of completion from The Knowledge Base.
This is a charity event, with a suggested donation of $1,000 per day. Your generosity will be much appreciated - all proceeds will go to The Knowledge Base
Reserve your mat today or get more information at reception.
About Jamie Plante
Jamie has dedicated his life to learning and practising the entire Buddhist path. As a young child he remembers doing spontaneous meditations, which he only later learned were formal Buddhist practices. It's clear that even at a young age, there were strong seeds for meditation and spiritual practice in his mind from his past life. When his grandfather, who had been Jamie's hero and role-model, passed away when he was 12 all he could think about was finding the answers to why people suffer and to find a way to help as many other people as possible.
He began studying with his first Buddhist teacher while still in his teens and lived in a Buddhist temple in his early 20s. He went on to university where he started a meditation group to share what he was learning with others, and when he was 19 he taught his first meditation classes. Jamie approached the student union of his university and got the meditation group approved as an official university group, actually convincing them to purchase mediation cushions for the students who attended. It was a success that he continued for his entire university life.
Jamie graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Rhode Island. Because of a lifelong fascination with traditional Asian healing arts, he went on to attend graduate school in Santa Barbara, California for acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. During this time, he also received certification in Ayurvedic Body Therapy (ABT) from the California College of Ayurveda.
He worked with a number of successful technology companies before meeting his heart teacher, Geshe Michael Roach. Jamie describes meeting his teacher as one of the most powerful experiences of his life and a turning point that would radically change the course of his life. In an indescribably intense and beautiful moment, he knew that this was the opportunity he had been waiting and praying for his entire life. He left everything to be close to his teacher and study full-time with him.
