Yoga practice is a miniature version of our lives:
We can learn about ourselves and transformation is possible.
Session I: The yoga mat is our mirror - Arm balancing and inversions
25 August (Saturday): 9:00am - 12:00pm
Our yoga mat is a mirror showing us our habitual energies. In this yang section of the workshop, we will be exploring the fun of inverting and standing on our hands. By learning how to listen to the subtle polarities of the body, we can tap into our potential with minimal frustration. We will also learn to recognise our habitual patterns through our asana practice and use the meditative tools in the later sessions to embrace and transform them.
Session II: A deeper understanding of ourselves and those around us
25 August (Saturday): 2:00pm - 6:00pm
Often we think we are individuals - and who I am does not affect who you are. This is the furthest thing from the truth. I am who I am because you are who you are; our experiences intertwined and how we live our lives affects how others live their lives. When we can understand our relationship with ourselves and each other, we are able to cultivate compassion and understanding within us. And thanks to this understanding, we will not be bound by our emotions. We will utilise lectures, yin yoga, and group exercises to help us realise this truth.
Session III: The yoga mat is our mirror - Backbends and hips
26 August (Sunday): 9:00am - 12:00pm
The more we understand our bodies (as opposed to our ideas of our bodies), the easier it is for us to work with backbending and hip poses within the yoga repertoire. Learning how to respect our bodies is an important start for us to learn how to respect our being as well as others. When we accept the way we are, we can have a deeper understanding; when there is deep understanding, there is a real connection; with the real connection, we can then respond to life that takes us to a more peaceful place. The hips are said to be a storage house for our anger energy, and it is easier to deny or suppress our anger than to face it. This session will facilitate a safe environment for us to release this energy in order for us to have a deeper understanding of its roots.
Session IV: Taking care of our emotions
26 August (Sunday): 2:00pm - 6:00pm
In this session, we will take a closer look at our emotions. We are not our emotions - we are bigger than them, but we have to have a deep understanding of their formation before we can liberate ourselves from them. We will be using a few exercises, group work and meditation methods to help us understand our emotions, which will naturally lead to liberation.

About Janet Lau
Since 2002, yoga has opened many doors for Janet. She has turned from a self-conscious girl into a powerful soul whose enthusiasm touches everyone around her, both on and off the yoga mat. Because of her personal transformation, she has committed to offering her light to others.
Janet has a vast knowledge of yoga anatomy, technicalities, sequencing, meditation, and most importantly, mindfulness. She is the first certified Baptiste Power Vinyasa yoga teacher in Southeast Asia. Her classes emphasise presence of mind, gaining joy from practice, and using your skills to minimise injuries. Teaching her students to honour their bodies, she also encourages her students to challenge their comfort zones in a healthy way. Janet's classes are fun, educational and inspiring for the body, heart, and mind. The intention of Janet's teaching is to allow her students to embrace life, knowing that everything we experience in our lives depends on our perceptions.
Janet teaches workshops for everyone from raw beginners to advanced practitioners. Besides teaching useful techniques in the asana practice, Janet offers workshops that transcend the mind from ignorance, transforming our emotions, and teaching us how to be happy with the way we are.
She has assisted Baron Baptiste and Paul Grilley at their teacher trainings, and her teachings are inspired by Baron Baptiste, Thich Nhat Hanh, Paul and Suzee Grilley, Frank Jude Boccio, Sarah Powers, David Swenson, and Stephen Thomas.
Besides teaching on the mat, Janet is actively seeking different ways to inspire her community - through her writing, by offering free meditation practice, and by looking for ways to spread the message of yoga. Without planning where yoga will take her, her
intention is to sow the seeds of mindfulness and love in the people around her.
