Let's Begin! At the Beginning!
We will explore the core techniques and concepts necessary for this profound practice. Be prepared to slow it down, lift the rugs, and sweep the dust from all the hidden places of the very beginning, basic parts of this practice. This is where we show up and begin working every day, and we tend to rush through it, to get where? If we do not do the work at the beginning, we cannot find the foundations we need to advance! This is the work for beginner students and old-time well-seasoned experienced as well. "Please, come one, come ALL!!!"

Partial Primary Series with Instructions, Part 1
We continue where we left off Friday evening. We use the awareness we learned by slowing down and looking closer, to start the difficult process of retaining, of stabilising our newfound wisdom, as we bring the practice 'up to speed.'
"Slowly, slowly, one-by-one" as Pattabhi Jois used to say, we will advance through the sequence. As we unfold the teachings and retain them in the work of "the practice," then we continue and progress!

Partial Primary Series with Instructions, Part 2
We continue where we left off Saturday - with the process of unfolding and unwrapping the "Presents," the gifts we receive in the observation of our Self in the Practice. We need to learn how to cultivate the ability to show up and be present, with our breath and the challenges the practice 'presents' to us. The teaching is to see it is all a gift, a Present! Even the challenges are Gifts that lead us to Presence of Mind/Body Awareness - that is Yoga.
We use the Ashtanga Yoga Sequence as a mirror to help us. The practice is best known to be a Tool for Observation in this difficult task to truly know ourselves! We are not concerned with how far we go through the sequence, but rather that we begin correctly and move forward appropriately as we are ready! There will be methods to help each of us work from where we are - appropriately for our own unique conditions - to ensure safe and enjoyable practice!

We will start each session with "The Practice."
This will be a gradual evolution into the deeper aspects of the Traditional Ashtanga Yoga Method. We will be willing to honour the essential truths of the practice such as Vinyasa, SamaSthitihi, TrishStana, as well as the Philosophical foundations of the method! We can understand that practice and philosophy are not separate - each informs the other to make a complete whole method. "One hand washes the other!" We use the philosophy to help us practise correctly and we use the practice to understand the philosophy!
There will be a short break of about 30 minutes after the practice session. Please bring a snack to save time! The afternoon session will be workshop-style, like a clinic, in which we have the time and space to explore in greater detail aspects of the practice we observed in the morning session that need attending to!
Possible subjects to explore are:
~ Universal Alignment Principles Inherent in, Existing in, the Method as it is.
~ How Philosophy of Yoga and of Ashtanga Yoga can help us practise better!
~ Basic understanding of all the various yoga asana types - Forward Bends, Back Bends, Inversions, Twist, Standing Poses…
~ Hands-on adjustments to better understand Universal Alignement, Samasthitihi!
~ Sama Vrtti Ujjayi Prana Ayama! What it means, and how it informs and guides our practice!
~ Sama as the Architype, the target of all of our practice. The One thing that guides us in everything else!
~ Common Injuries. How to avoid them, work with them and use them as teachings, if they happen.
~ Time for Questions and Discussion about any and all concerns regarding this practice! |

| About Chuck Miller |
|---|
Chuck Miller has been practising yoga earnestly since 1971 and finally learned Ashtanga Yoga from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1980. Studies with Pattabhi include numerous extended and familial encounters in America and nearly two years spread over seven trips to Mysore, in southern India.
Chuck enjoys teaching, with a focus on the holistic nature of Ashtanga Yoga, teaching it as both a philosophical system and a strong practical method. Chuck is known for his gentle but deliberate hands-on adjustments which are both reassuring and challenging.
Teaching since 1988, Chuck was director of Ashtanga Yoga and a co-owner of the original Yoga Works in Santa Monica, Calif.
