Weekend Yoga Anatomy with Chris Kummer
4-6 December, Pure Tower

Add to Outlook calendar    Add this event to Outlook calendar

The following workshop series is designed for a weekend of yoga anatomy exploration. Beginning on Friday evening with Yoga and the Nervous System, each subsequent day has a slightly longer lecture before lunch and one after lunch. Each topic can be attended on its own, or in a series. No prerequisites, except for regular yoga practice, are necessary.

Yoga and the Nervous System
Your nervous system creates your experience of the world. More is discovered constantly about the interaction of yoga and the nervous system. This class explores some of the many correlations and influences, which yoga, the nervous system and the mind still have in a time of asana as the main form of yoga. Learn about tightness in the body and its relation to stress, little secrets to sequencing your practice and the integration of yoga in everyday life.

Anti-gravitational Support from the Limbs
Like every house needs a good foundation, we too need stable support from our arms and legs in asana practice. Explore appropriate use and alignment of feet, legs, arms and shoulders in standing postures and arm balances to find more steadiness and lightness in our practice.

Joints
Understanding how to develop strength and flexibility in our joints is one of the best ways to a joyful yoga life. In yoga asana practice, joints are the key points of movement. Learn about the components of joints and how to take care of them. Explore the 5 restrictions of movement, special features of the knee and other joints.

Moving from the Core
Unravel the core! Study and experience healthy movements for forward bends. Familiarise yourself with the bandha support of your lower back to prevent and address lower back discomfort. Understand more about the importance of posture for your spine and your neck.

Breath, Movement and Awareness
With our breath we can move energy through the body. Discover how you can maximise your breathing to suit your practice and well-being. Find insights into muscles involved in breathing, prana, the purpose of breathing, and how to support asanas with your breath.

About Chris Kummer
Chris is an inspiring yoga teacher who brings the anatomy and physiology of the human body to life. He has taken his 'anatomy show' to over 40 accredited international teacher trainings of many yoga styles in the past 10 years.

Chris' teaching style is lighthearted, fun and educational. Having studied anatomy in medical school and naturopathic college, Chris saw the need for a more interactive and hands-on approach. The added unique requirements of yoga asana practice resulted in a presentation style accessible to all students regardless of previous experience.

Yoga practice has been a part of Chris' life since the early age of 7 when he was given therapeutic asana for back problems. The combination of yoga and health has been a common thread throughout his adult life. When teaching yoga anatomy, an understanding of movement and postures combines with his practical knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.

His own experiences and the passion for sharing knowledge led Chris to developing a series of DVDs introducing children to yoga and healthy eating & living habits to help them thrive in this modern world.

'My motivation lies in meeting the challenge to present a subject which is both fascinating and often dreaded. It is sharing my fascination with bringing this knowledge to life and instilling both understanding and joy in the student, when the uniqueness we possess improves our life and well-being. All information is delivered in the context of asana, pranayama or other yogic practices."
