Building Blocks for your Practice with Heidi Chen
10 & 11 April, Taipei – Pure Tower

About the Workshop
---
Join Heidi in cultivating depth and ease in your practice. The techniques learned in these sessions will help you avoid injury and bring you into alignment, while bringing you happiness and harmony of mind. Heidi enjoys sharing real-life experiences with students during her class, so that the anatomy knowledge and technical terms will become less difficult for students to understand. Through these four classes, you will better understand the relationship between your body structure and yoga practice.
Schedule
---
Saturday 10 April
10:00am - 12:30pm
Session 1: The Fundamentals: Standing poses
How correctly do you approach standing poses? A standing pose is much like building a solid foundation for a house. It can help balance your spine, shoulders and neck. While doing a standing pose, you can feel your thigh muscles stretching and burning. Students will learn that the outer and inner spirals of the thigh must be interconnected, and discover how to use prana (upward spreading breath) and apana (downward contracting breath) to establish a completely integrated form. Upon fully understanding basic standing postures, you will be ready to move to more advanced hip-opening postures.
Saturday 10 April
2:00pm - 4:30pm
Session 2: Forward bends and twists
Forward bend is more than just making your fingers touch the floor. You will learn how to execute forward bends and twisting poses safely, and to use the strength of the back to extend the whole spine. The movement from pelvis will make students twist with more stability and depth, and twisting poses can help prepare the body for backbending poses.
Sunday 11 April
10:00am - 12:30pm
Session 3: Shoulder stability
Our current lifestyle makes us prone to inflexibility and instability in the shoulders. Yogis often complain of suffering from various injuries in the shoulders and wrist joints. Understanding how to correctly engage the joints and the muscles around the shoulders, arms and collarbone not only help the stability of your posture and keep pain away, but also enhance your progress in arm-balancing and backbending poses.
Sunday 11 April
2:00pm - 5:00pm
Session 4: Free backbends
This backbends session will explore all parts of our body including hips, shoulders, thigh and spine. Let the breath guide your body and make backbends more comfortable and free. The principles and knowledge learned in the previous three sessions will be integrated into this final session and inspire you to practise yoga with ease.
Each session includes anatomy lecture and asana practice.

About Heidi Chen
---
Although she has been teaching and learning Yoga since graduating from university, Heidi did not really immerse herself into the practice of Yoga until taking Pure Yoga'sTeacher Training in 2007. Through the training, she was able to engage in advanced Yoga practice and consequently realised that the elements of Yoga philosophy - Yin and Yang, the inward and outward, breathing in and out - all constitute an effort to achieve a balanced lifestyle. She feels that practising Yoga compensates for her negative qualities such as hyperactivity and impatience, enabling her to slow down and enjoy the process. As a Yoga instructor, she always ensures that her students learn and fully engage themselves in the positions safely and correctly, while sharing the joy of Yoga with enthusiasm and humility.
Heidi thanks God for the instruction Richard Freeman gave her, as well as the encouragement she has received from every Yoga instructor and student she's met. |
