The Asana we practise is but a small part of yoga. Traditional yoga teachings also encourage us to practise kindness, truthfulness, cleanliness, contentment and other noble qualities.
Aparigraha or non-attachment is one of them. It can be practised in many ways: practising handstand even if you cannot achieve it; donating items you have not used in years; letting go of long-held beliefs that are no longer valid; or shaving all the hair off your head!
It may be scary at first. You’re worried about how you’ll look, what people will think or say, and you wonder if people will like you less. But it’s the quickest way to experience compassion for cancer survivors, prison inmates, or other people who’ve lost their hair against their will. It also makes you assess whether the Santosha (Contentment) you thought you had is really that solid!
Bonuses of a shaved head? Stay cooler this summer, no styling or styling products needed, new hair often grows back healthier than before.
Show your support to PURE Yoga instructors Frances, Noy, Hari Om and PURE Group’s Regional Marketing Director Gary Wise as they shave for strays. All proceeds will go to Sai Kung Stray Friends.
SAI KUNG STRAY FRIENDS is a group of volunteers that rescues stray dogs and puppies and provides them with shelter, food and medical care. It is a very small charity for whom every dollar really makes a difference.
