 About the Workshop

 

Learn unique techniques to enhance coordination, build strength and increase flexibility for Arm Balancing, Inverting and Back Bending.  What most yogis don’t know is that the physical alignments in yoga postures are not universal.  Everyone’s body is different and so are the methodologies for advancing your practice.  

 

During the workshop, you will benefit from a heightened awareness about your body and how you can move through and beyond any obstacles. Greater strength and flexibility are hidden in the nuances; therefore, unique actions will be prescribed based on your body.  You will learn how you can enrich your yoga experience and transform your practice. You will also increase your stamina by learning to work smarter: with greater breath awareness and more purposeful alignment.  

 

 

Schedule & Description

 

Session 1:  Inversions

7 April (Friday): 7:00pm-9:00pm

Handstand, headstand and forearm balance will be studied and connected in a powerful flow. 

 

Session 2:  Arm Balances

8 April (Saturday): 10:00am-1:00pm

Crow, crane, lolasana, kukutasana, ashtavarasana, koundinyasa two, koundinyasa one, twisted crow and flying pigeon will be studied though a bad-ass flow.

 

Session 3: Backbends

8 April (Saturday): 2:30pm-4:30pm

Back bends such as hollow back, chin stand, scorpion, pigeon and tick tock will be studied and connected in a kick-ass flow.

 

Session 4: Power Up

9 April (Sunday): 10:00am-12:00pm

Advanced flow that incorporates the studied postures and transitions.

 

Session 5: Teachers Class

9 April (Sunday): 1:30pm-3:30pm

Teachers learn to appropriately tailor alignment cues, physical adjustments and motivational tactics for their students.

About Marysia

 

Marysia began practising yoga in 2002 in New York. In 2003, she re-located to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California and studied under the tutelage of Brock and Krista Cahill for 8 years in Santa Monica. With their guidance Marysia’s love of handstands flourished, and in 2009 Marysia received her yoga teaching certification from Dharma Mittra.

Currently, Marysia’s greatest teachers are her students. She feels that her responsibility is to magnify and balance each student’s unique talents. Although we cannot always control what we are given, we can choose how we cope. By carefully observing students as individuals (even in group classes), she customises the practice specifically for each person. Marysia firmly believes in her students and their ability to achieve their goals both on and off the yoga mat. The key is in understanding a person’s limitations and strengths and learning how to appropriately leverage those abilities to maximise their potential. Marysia teaches students how to exercise productive thinking with the same diligence that they exercise their bodies. 
Marysia also believes that it is not what we do, but the energy we bring to what we do that creates the experience. As a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist who has treated a number of yoga-related injuries, she is meticulous when it comes to alignment. Postures do not cause injury, inefficient technique does. 
Marysia’s classes, whilst pragmatic and grounding, are uplifting and energising. With a strong foundation and a lot of core work, students gain access to postures they’ve dreamed of, but may never have thought possible. In addition to teaching for Pure Yoga, Marysia is a proud Ambassador for Pure Apparel and Yoga Gives Back.


QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Currently studying movement with Ido Portal
    • 8-year apprenticeship with Brock and Krista Cahill
    • 150-hr Yoga Teacher Training with Dharma Mittra
    • Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University
