Chair Yoga Workshop with Jane Pau

The use of chairs in yoga was developed by Mr. B.K.S Iyengar as a tool to deepen and improve yoga asana practice and has gained much popularity in recent years due to the positive experience and impact it offers. Yoga practitioners of different levels and practices find that the chair helps to bring more opening and awareness to the body. It enables higher capacity to learn and practise challenging poses, and to stay longer in poses for the full benefits. The chair can also help to add “flavour” to our daily mat yoga practice, allowing us to deepen our studies in a fun and light-hearted way.

This workshop aims to introduce the use of chairs in different yogasanas,
and thus deepen and enhance your practice on various levels. We will:
• Explore how to use the chair in different poses and in different ways for each pose
• Study detailed alignment of poses through the chair and experience poses on a more profound level
• Gain techniques to overcome challenges in poses
• Develop deeper bodily awareness
• Learn ways to adapt the use of chair for your body and yoga practice

The workshop is divided into 3 sessions. Taking all three is recommended to gain the full experience and the tools for developing a well-rounded chair yoga practice

Schedule & Description,
Session I: Chair Yoga Basics (2.5 hours)
23 February (Saturday) 10:30am – 1:00pm
This session introduces the use of chairs, focusing on common Level 1 standing and seated poses. We will explore the detailed alignment and common difficulties experienced in some regular poses and learn ways to overcome these issues using the chair.
Suitable for practitioners who are interested in chair yoga and would like to learn and develop better bodily alignment and awareness.

Session II: Chair Yoga Intermediate (2.5 hours)
24 February (Sunday) 10:30am – 1:00pm
This session focuses on exploring and attempting some of the more challenging poses, including backbends, inversions and arm balances. We will study these poses, explore their difficulties, and learn techniques to overcome these challenges with the support of the chair.
Suitable for practitioners who have an existing backbend, inversion and arm balance practice and those with a consistent basic practice who would like to embark on the journey.

Session III: Chair Yoga Restorative (2.5 hours)
24 February (Sunday) 1:30pm – 4:00pm
This session focuses on restorative yoga, studying the significance of a restorative practice, and the benefits of different restorative poses on the nervous system. Given the versatility of the chair, it is one of the best yoga props for supporting the body in restorative poses. We will learn ways to use the chair that allow the body and nervous system to relax and release fully.
Suitable for anyone interested in developing a quieter practice and learning ways to rejuvenate the nervous system through yoga.

All levels welcome.
