Movement Artist II with Angela Lohse

About the Workshop

Back by popular demand, the success of Movement Artist Part One has propelled Angela into creating a Part Two. Inspired by yoga and infused with dance-like movements, students are introduced to a practice that takes them a few degrees outside the traditional framework of vinyasa flow. Participants will learn how to transition from one asana to the next by linking the poses with unique transitional-based movements. This creative sequence seeks to get participants moving in a synchronised flow that takes them beyond the confines of a traditional yoga. Angela will teach you how to fuse movements practised in martial arts, yoga, and tai chi into a single flow-like sequence. This sequence also includes movement-based inversions practice, so get ready to have your world turned upside down!  

Schedule & Description

 

Session 1: Creative Fluidity

24 November (Sat): 10:00am – 12:00pm

Be introduced to a new method of moving in your practice. This morning practice will begin with a transition-based choreographed vinyasa sequence inspired by music that fits the flow. We will study and break down the new movements so that all participants can embody the details of fluid flow. 

 

Session 2: The Art of Upside-Down

24 November (Sat): 1:00pm – 3:00pm

Get creative in the world of upside-down. The afternoon will be dedicated to deepening our understanding of movement-based inversions. Inversions such as headstand, forearm balance and handstand will be practised to gain the confidence to move and transition from one movement to the next. These inversion-based transitions will be woven into our pre-existing sequence. We will also learn the basics of advanced arm balances and study key tips to transition from one to the next more easily and effortlessly. 

 

Session 3: Back-bending Bliss  

25 November (Sun): 10:00am – 12:00pm

Our morning practice begins by reviewing the vinyasa sequence to prepare us for back-bending. After warming up, we will use props such as the wall, chair and straps to deepen our bending ability. Once we open up to a new way of experiencing back-bending, we will incorporate a back-bending sequence into our pre-existing flow.  

 

Session 4: Final Flow

25 November (Sun): 1:00pm – 3:00pm

Yoga is about connection, so together we will work towards mastering our movements as a whole. This workshop is suitable for those who are craving a more creative practice, seek to master basic inversions, arm balances, and backbend more freely.  

 

*Participants of this workshop must be able to do a basic headstand and backbend.
