Introduction to Prana Vashya - A Dynamic Vinyasa Yoga with Monica Cirtoli

About the Workshop

Prana Vashya (control of Prana) Yoga was developed by renowned yoga champion Vinay Kumar of Mysore who began practising Hatha Yoga at the age of seven and later moved into the practice of Ashtanga. After a few years of experimenting with different applications, Vinay discovered that he had actually developed a dynamic new form of yoga, which he named it Prana Vashya Yoga later. 

Prana Vashya follows the breath instead of following the movement and maintains the rhythm of the breath throughout the practice. Through breath control, Prana Vashya keeps the attention fixed on the asana, not allowing the attention to wander. Utilising Kumbhakas (breath locks) in the asana has a very powerful and dynamic effect that develops intense stamina on the core level and not just muscular.

Prana Vashya Yoga provides equilibrium for the upper and lower body. It is distinguished by its unique approach to flow and balance which trains the body equally in strength, balance and flexibility while calming the mind and the nervous system.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn the Prana Vashya Yoga principles and origins
  • Practise the entire primary sequence of Prana Vashya Yoga
  • Practise the unique Prana Vashya style flexibility and backbending practice
  • Experience a unique approach to the vinyasa practice
  • Use of breath and breath locks as a way to focus the mind and strengthen the body.

Schedule & Description

Session 1

4  March (Saturday) 10:00am – 12:00pm (2hrs)

In this session, we will explore the origins and practice of the Prana Vashya dynamic vinyasa yoga sequence by Master Vinay Kumar of Mysore. We will also learn the unique way to align the body through the use of the breath and breath locks, including a complete utilisation of the upper and lower body, training the body evenly along its front, back and transverse lines and will leave you with a feeling of strength and balance both on a physical and mental level.

 

Session 2

5  March (Sunday) 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (2hrs) 

In this session, we will explore the unique Prana Vashya approach to flexibility through a session of deep back bending practice. We will experience the connection between the breath, body and mind through a sequence of flexibility postures that will leave you with a feeling of lightness and openness both on a physical and mental level.
