About Jared Mccann 

 

Jared McCann is an international yoga teacher and holds an advanced E-RYT 500 designation. He is the two-time national and 2013 world asana champion. Jared has studied yoga extensively with Dharma Mittra, Ana Forrest, and Mary Jarvis. He has decades of practice in Ashtanga, Bikram, Dharma, Forrest, and Iyengar yoga, and combines all disciplines together in his Vinyasa series. 

 

Jared believes that yoga is a powerful tool which assists human progression, allowing each individual to peel off layers of their "identities" in order to uncover their own true nature. He believes that through yoga, practitioners feel part of something larger than themselves, and are better able to see their own divine place in the universe. 

 

Jared’s yoga classes are a creative blend of classical and modern yoga philosophies. With inspiration drawn from Ashtanga, Iyengar, Bikram, Dharma, and Forrest Yoga, elements of these five styles are uniquely fused together to create a new and transformative style of Yoga that is challenging, healing, and fun.  

 

Schedule and Description 

 

4 April, Thursday

Session 1: JM Vinyasa (Open Level)

12:15pm  1:45pm

 

This is Jared’s signature open level vinyasa class. Jared McCann Vinyasa classes aim to break attachments, create energy and vitality, and purify both mind and body. Breathing becomes a meditation and is utilised to create space from the inside out. Jared’s class blends many styles of yoga including Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar, Forrest, and Dharma yoga. JM Vinyasa bridges gaps in yoga traditions and creates a practice that is modernand accessible, and allows practitioners to learn from all styles. Every class includes standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions. Classes can also include mantra, pranayama, kriya or meditation.

4 April, Thursday

Session 2: Bandha Intensive

3:00pm  6:00pm

 

Create stability, ease, and depth in any yoga pose by learning to incorporate two of yoga’s most important interior locks: mula bandha, the root lock, and uddiyana bandha, the navel lock. Together, these two locks bring stability and awareness to the pelvis. When mula and uddiyana bandha are mastered, yoga postures such as backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions feel light, easy, and effortless. 

 

Once students are grounded in their bandhas knowledge, they can apply their new understanding of bandha engagement in Forward Folds, Backbends, Inversions, Twists, and Sun Salutations. We will weave everything together in a full-length Hatha class that will give students the opportunity to practise everything they’ve learned. It can take years for most students to master these locks in the pelvis, but mula bandha and uddiyana bandha are foundational yoga elements that every student should know. They allow for safer and deeper range of movement, as well as more extension through the spinal column.

 

5 April, Friday

Session 3: JM Vinyasa (Intermediate / Advanced)

This is Jared’s intermediate level Vinyasa class.  Jared McCann Vinyasa classes aim to break attachments, create energy and vitality, and purify both mind and body. Breathing becomes a meditation and is utilised to create space from the inside out. Jared’s class blends many styles of yoga including Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar, Forrest, and Dharma yoga. JM Vinyasa bridges gaps in yoga traditions and creates a practice that is modernand accessible, and allows practitioners to learn from all styles.

This class will include intermediate + advanced variations in standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions. We will also explore some fun arm balance transitions. Classes can also include mantra, pranayama, kriya or meditation. All levels are welcome.

 

5 April, Friday

Session 4: Grounding with Standing Poses, Hips + Mantra 

7:00pm  9:30pm 

 

Connect to your feet, connect to your breath, and be with your awareness. We will energise the body by focusing on standing balancing poses like standing bow, standing head to knee, as well as warrior 1, 2 and 3 by working from the ground up. We will then bring the energy down to the hips by practising baddha konasana, straddle splits, and leg being the head. Mantra and pranayama will be used to ground, open and release.  

 

6 April, Saturday

Session 5: Backbending Your Entire Spine

9:30am  12:00pm 

 

This 2.5 hour workshop focuses on backbending techniques designed to heal, open, and strengthen your entire spine.

 

It begins with a strong vinyasa sequence that includes abdominal exercises, standing postures, and inversions. After the warm-up, we will flow into classical backbending postures with an interactive lecture focusing on alignment and technique. Jared will focus on explaining bandhas (energy locks) in the pelvis and abdomen to enhance stability and awareness. We will also discuss the function of hips, shoulders, abdominals, and limbs in creating a strong and supported backbending practice. The workshop ends with exercises that unwind the spine, savasana, and meditation.

 

* This class is designed for all levels. Beginners are welcome!

 

6 April, Saturday

Session 6: Intermediate Hatha with Meditation 

1:30pm  4:00pm 

 

This intermediate series stems from the Bishnu Gosh lineage and combines classic hatha yoga postures from the beginner 26 pose series as well as the advanced 84 series. The entire body will be covered in depth in this workshop that also includes meditation and pranayama. 

 

7 April, Sunday

Session 7: Inversions + Arm Balances

9:30am  12:00pm 

 

This workshop begins with a fun and challenging vinyasa sequence and transitions into a breakdown of different arm balances and inversion postures. The overall concept of Bandhas (energy locks) will be explained, but we will focus primarily on Amsa Bandha – the shoulder lock, and Hasta Bandha – the hand lock. Students will first practise incorporating the locks in easier arm balance variations and then will have the option to apply them to more difficult asanas.

 

Inversions help to re-circulate lymphatic and spinal fluid resulting in mental clarity and reduced anxiety. Arm balances encourage students to connect to their strength and overcome fear.

 

7 April, Sunday

Session 8: Backbending + Pranayama

1:30pm  4:00pm 

 

This workshop focuses on backbending techniques designed to heal, open, and strengthen your entire spine paired with pranayama that will help in opening the front side of the body. Jared has developed a special sequence of postures that allows students to better understand and open their spine and gain awareness of their breath throughout the practice.

 

The workshop begins with a strong vinyasa sequence that includes abdominal exercises, standing postures, and inversions. After the warm-up, we will flow into basic backbending postures with an interactive lecture focusing on alignment. The lecture will focus on the lower, middle, upper, and neck spine. Jared will teach students to use all aspects of their spine so that students feel confident and safe in their backbending practice. The workshop ends with exercises that unwind the spine, savasana, and meditation.
