BRIDGING THE GAP Between Level 1 & 2 with Ester Oldfield

8 & 15 May, The Pulse – Repulse Bay

Are you ready to deepen your practice with Level 2 classes but feel out of your depth, not confident enough or left behind?  

Over two Saturdays, we will work together to bridge the gap between Levels 1 and 2 postures. We will cover the foundations and further variations of arm balances, inversions and backbends so that you have the knowledge and confidence to practise safely and thrive in Level 2 classes.

PART 1 – Inversions and Arm Balances

We will refine alignment for the main inversions: headstand (Sirsasana 1 and 2), handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana) and forearm stand (Pincha Mayurasana) as well as practising additional leg variations and entrances. 

Props and modifications will be used to help in the more difficult poses, giving you the confidence to practise safely while growing your practice.

We will strengthen a series of arm balances (Bakasana, Parsva Bakasana, Koundinyasana 1 and 2, Tittibasana, Galavasana) by refining form and achieving longer holds.

We will then focus on transitional arm balance work, linking a series of arm balances together, challenging our alignment and developing further strength within movement.

To complete the session, we will consolidate our practice of inversions and arm balances, working on transitions between headstand (Sirsasana) and crow pose (Bakasana).

Modifications and variations will be offered to suit each student’s level. 

PART 2 – Backbends

We will spend time to understand the mechanics of the spine and body in backends. We will also revisit our inversion work from the first session.

Inversions provide a great opening for the upper back, which plays a crucial role in backbends.

We will explore how to deepen backbends and refine wheel pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana) safely using props and techniques, whilst working towards more advanced backbends such as:

  • Drop backs, (Tadasana to Urdhva Dhanurasana),
  • Pigeon pose (Kapotasana),
  • King cobra (Raja Bhujangasana),
  • Inverted staff pose (Vipiritta Dandasana),
  • King dancer (Natarajasana). 

Modifications and variations will be offered to suit each student’s level.
