Strength and Flexibility: The Importance of Functional Flexibility with Arthur & Vivian

Ever feel that stretching is sometimes a pain yet doesn't seem to increase your flexibility and mobility? In this workshop, we will reveal the key to smartly release tension in the body by learning about the relationship between strength and flexibility.


This workshop is suitable if you:


* Wish to see more noticeable progress in your flexibility

* Have limited range of motion that is holding you back from your strength training

Session 1 10:00am-1230pm

Tight hips


Our hips accumulate most of the stress and tension that can build up from our everyday lives, which eventually causes chronic pain in the leg or lower back. Opening the hips can be challenging due to the complexity of our hip joints. In this masterclass, we will alleviate tight hips by exploring the 6 different movements of our hips: flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, external and internal rotation.


2 October

Session 2 10:00am -12:30pm

Tight hamstrings


Tightness in the hamstrings will not only limit forward bending ability in our yoga practice but also affect our functional flexibility in day-to-day life. In this session, we will incorporate both active- and passive-style stretching to lengthen the hamstrings. We will also discuss why it is key to develop strength in the hamstrings to minimise injury in our practice.

Session 3 2:00pm-4:30pm

Tight shoulders

Shoulders are designed to be mobile, but modern-day life causes loss of mobility in many of us over time. In this session, we will work on exercises to access the mobility of the upper back and increase our range of motion in the rotator cuff. We will also introduce drills to stabilise the shoulder joints, which will be the key to developing balanced and pain-free shoulders on and off the mat.


3 October

Session 4 10:00am-12:30pm

Tight back

Back pain can be one of the most debilitating hotspots for pain. In this masterclass, we will learn how to effectively counteract bad posture that contributes to back pain and find the proper alignment for our spine to improve chronic back pain. Give your upper and lower back some love by activating, stretching and releasing.


The masterclass will include discussions, demonstrations and asana practice.
