Class Description

10.40am - 11.55am

The Art of Backbending with April

This grounding class offers a uniquely designed sequence to increase the flexibility of the spine. Back bending postures are known to stimulate the nervous system and teach the practitioner to be fully present and courageous. The result is a sense of confidence and openness to live our lives more fully, welcoming our emotions, experiences and relationships. During this class, students will learn to practice backbending postures in a safe and mindful way. Some pranayma, chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for students with some yoga experience looking to have an invigorating practice.

12.10pm - 1.10pm

Blindfold Yoga with Derris

This slow dynamic practice will draw your awareness away from the external world as you focus on body and mind. In yoga philosophy, pratyahara means "the withdrawal of sesnse." It will challenge your balance and teach you to heighten your awareness through your other senses. For part of the practice, you will be blindfolded to connect deeply with your body and become attuned to the vast knowledge that can only be found within you. Some pranayma, chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for students with some yoga experience looking to have a meditative yet dynamic experience. This class builds on the necessary body stability acquired in Level 1 classes to take on asanas and sequences in a dimly lit room. Classes are taught with modifications to allow an easy transition from Level 1 to Level 2.

2.10pm - 3.10pm

Building Stronger Arm Balances with Elisa

This class guides students through poses that act like the building blocks of arm balances. They follow certain patterns that help to prepare the body and get students flying high in their own practice. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for students with some yoga experience looking to have an invigorating arm balance practice. Not suitable for people with either wrtist, elbow or shoulder injuries. Alternative options may be included in this class.

3.30pm - 4.30pm

The Practice of Santosha     with Jayan

This Hatha class will themed around "Santosha". More than just contentment, it is also gratitude from the deepest part of who we are and to bring it all to the present moment. As a result, we feel more energized, alive, and full of purpose. This is a grounding practice focused on connecting the body and mind with the purpose of increasing awareness and stability. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for students with some yoga experience looking to have an invigorating experience. No full inversions are included in these classes. Some preparations for inversions and Level 2 postures may be introduced, with options for Level 1 students to ease the transition from Level 1 to Level 2 classes.

4.00pm - 5.30pm

Universal Mandala - Unification Of The Self with Daria

Themed “Unification of The Self” in this special Mandala practice, we set the intention to cultivate awareness of the physical, spiritual, mental, and energetic aspects combined into the conscious self. This class follows the tradition developed by Andrey Lappa, which weaves modern western science and ancient eastern wisdom togther. Universal Yoga combines the practice of Vinyasa with pranayama, visualisation, mantra, mudra and meditation. These elements are carefully sequenced in a symmetrical, progressive and multi-directional manner, making students feel a strong sense of balance and serenity at the end of the class. The arrangement of the mats in this class is cross-shaped, which is necessary for the multidirectional sequencing.

Suitable for intermediate and advanced yoga practitioners. Students must have attended Universal Yoga classes on a consistent basis and have the necessary body stability and awareness to take on more challenging sequences. Class will be taught with modifications to allow all students to experience the practice at their own level. Full inversions may be included in these classes.

Special Themed Classes

Throughout the month of May

Class Name

Class Description

Week 1: Backbend Series

(Back Strength, Shoulder & Chest Opening, Strong Backbends)

Pillar: Specialised

Level: 1

Teacher: April

This Specialised 3-part series is all about backbends. This style of poses can be challenging for many of us, but with the right preparation and approach, the results can be rewarding and motivating. Back-bending is not only about flexibility, it is about having strength in our back and surrounding spine muscles so that we are able to dive into deeper backbend postures safely. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for yoga students seeking to improve their backbend practice. A wide range of backbend poses and modifications will be given to allow for different levels of practitioners. Props like two blocks, a strap, and the wall may be used.

Week 2: Core Series

(Core Matters, Core Values, CoreOrdination)

Pillar: Specialised

Level: 1

Teacher: April

This Specialised 3-part series is designed to help you become more aware of your core. Different techniques and poses are used in each of the classes work on the entire core muscle group, helping you improve back stability, general balance and coordination. The overall result is a better connection of your body and mind. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for yoga practitioners looking to improve their connection to their own core.

Week 3: Stretch & Breathe Series

(Hips & Legs, Neck & Shoulders, Spine Mobility)

Pillar: Healing

Level: Gentle

Teacher: Mitzi

This Healing 3-part series focuses on stretching specific areas of the body while using breathwork. The breath helps to ease the tension of the body and mind. Using breath also helps to energise and detoxify the body, and it acts as an anchor for the mind while the pose is being practiced. Students can expect gentle stretching poses that will help nourish the body and restore the mind. Some chanting and meditation may be included.

Suitable for all levels of practitioners looking to stretch their bodies with moderate physical effort while connecting body and mind through the breath.
