About the Workshops

Session 1 - Yoga Alignment & Mechanics: Form & Function

13 March (Friday) 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Yoga practice is an amazing gift. It keeps us vital and healthy and is a valuable tool for injury rehabilitation. If you are someone who invests your time and passion in yoga and understands the benefits of a refined practice, then you are a serious yogi, regardless of your experience! Some yogis mistakenly assume that alignment in asana practice is restrictive and static and prevents a practice from flowing and advancing. In fact, the opposite is true. As with any dance or sport, alignment and precision in performance is what creates grace and fluidity. Alignment prevents injuries, adding longevity to a life's practice. Yet, asana practice has been a common cause of injury, specifically when practised with a limited understanding of alignment and body mechanics.

The question to ask oneself is whether you know the anatomically correct way to move every part of the body, in every pose, every time! Join Dr. Steven Weiss, chiropractor and certified yoga therapist, in this comprehensive exploration of the body and its actions in asana. The workshop presents easy-to-understand principles that are based on our anatomy while taught completely from a yogic perspective.

This 3-hour programme is comprehensive and fully experiential, guaranteed to be interesting and fun! The goal is to bring this essential and fundamental information to practitioners of all traditions, from Yin to Vinyasa. The principles that are presented are based on our anatomy and physiology and therefore will apply to all exercise approaches, sports, work, and other physical activities.
