Join Jani Jaatinen (Mahayogi Gokulacandra dās), founder of Gokul Yoga in a series of special workshops!

  

Session 1: Masterclass (Gokul Vinyasa + Yoga Philosophy)

29 May (Friday), 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Bring your Vinyasa practice to the next level! Jani's vinyasa yoga is vigorous and powerful. It offers a dynamic, energetic flow of strong, simple poses and intelligent sequencing designed to challenge and inspire both mentally and physically, whatever your flexibility or fitness level. Expect to move, sweat, stretch and leave transformed!

  

Session 2: Hip-Opening Workshop

30 May (Saturday), 10:00am to 12:00pm

Our tight hips are mostly due to our hip flexors shortening throughout the day as a result of sitting for long periods of time. In this workshop, we will focus on yoga asanas (postures) that will help to release the tightness, tension and pain in this area of our body. Participants will be guided to flow through a series of hip-opening postures, to warm up our joints and feel stronger and more flexible in the hips, giving tips and tricks to work towards asanas that need an opened hip.

  

Session 3: Backbends Workshop

30 May (Saturday), 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Back bending isn’t all about the spine. This workshop will teach you what parts of the body need to open and what should soften. You’ll learn key sequencing to prepare the body for heart opening postures and how to modify them to work with your body, giving you confidence to explore them in your own practice. We will find more space in your backbends whilst developing safe preparatory back bending skills that you can incorporate into your own practice. Many options will be offered to accommodate those with mobility restrictions. Suitable for all levels as we will work with a variety of different backbends at different levels.

  

Session 4: Exploration of Bandhas

31 May (Sunday), 10:00am to 12:00pm

Bandhas are the internal locks that stabilise the physical structure and, on a deeper level, offer an internal focal point to bind one’s consciousness to sense withdrawal. Utilising the bandhas in yoga postures creates stability, deep core strength, and flow in the postures and transitions. In this workshop, Jani will explain each different bandha and discuss energetic aspects of the bandhas as well as their application in our practice. 

  

Session 5: Pranayama, Pratyahara & Dharana

31 May (Sunday), 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Breathing while in Pranayama is under voluntary control, which will affect the respiratory rate. There are three phases of respiration while practising Pranayama – Puraka (inhalation), Kumbhaka (retention of breath) and Recaka (exhalation). We will explore the anatomy of the subtle body by getting familiar with prana, nadis, bandhas, vayus, as well as learn and practise the most important pranayama techniques. We will explore a variety of meditative practices, bringing in the pratyahara and dharana into the asana/movement exploration, which leads inwards to the Self and pure consciousness (Samadhi).
