Arm balance flow workshop with Natalie Sung

Harness the strength, flexibility and control needed to elevate yourself through a series of different arm balance variations and transitions. This workshop provides practical, step-by-step instructions and progressive routines to get you into poses safely and effectively with a deeper understanding of alignment and techniques.

We will begin by focusing on the essential foundations of arm balances, including strength and flexibility in the wrists and hamstrings, weight distribution and pelvic movement. We will continue to build strength in your arms, shoulders, chest and core. Because not all our bodies and ways of learning are the same, a variety of approaches are woven into the programming. 

*This workshop will be conducted in Cantonese.

Date: 26 September (Sunday)
Session 1

Learn valuable tips and key techniques, starting with the foundation of any arm balance – Chaturanga. Understanding how to do the arm balance well and keep your shoulders safe should be the first step to learning Chaturanga Pose for beginners. We will include the two most common transitions to Chaturanga of lowering down from Plank and jumping back from Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend). Then we will explore basic arm balances and variations with step-by-step guidance to make them accessible for every student:
- Crow (Bakasana)
- Side Crow (Parsva Bakasana)

Suitable for beginners

Date: 3 October (Sunday)
Session 2
We will discuss the correct form and anatomy of selected arm balance poses such as:
-One Legged Crow (eka pada bakasana)
-Eka pada II
-Firefly pose (tittibhasana)

We will explore threading the arm balances together in a sequence, learning different ways to enter and exit many arm balances. Inversions such as tripod headstand and chinstand may be included.

Suitable for students who want to dive deep into some advanced poses and transitions to build confidence and safely practise level 2 classes.

Prerequisites: A solid crow pose (Bakasana)
